I hear it all the time – “My boyfriend never spends time with me, he’s always stuck in front of the computer. Playing GAMES. UGH!”

I’ll be honest with you, I’ve heard it more times than I care to remember too… crap like, “Haven’t you played that enough today? Why don’t you spend that much time with me?” And other such nonsense. Isn’t it funny how playing hours worth of video games seem to get our girlfriends and boyfriends angry with us, but its perfectly normal in our society to sit in front of the television (aka the idiot box) for 6 hours a night!

I’m so sick of it I could almost…! But I digress…!

Luckily (very, very luckily) for me, my latest squeeze loves games as much as I do… and though I haven’t QUITE got her to play World of Warcraft with me yet, she understands what it is about games that makes them so downright fun. She also understands and accepts that games are just as worthy a hobby as anything else… knitting, dancing, cooking, musical instruments… gaming. There’s no difference, just a social bias.

If you AREN’T lucky enough to have a boy or girlfriend who loves games, you’ll know all too well how frustrating and annoying it can be to be constantly reminded how much time we’re spending, and being made to feel guilty day in day out for engaging in a hobby we love. It’s total B.S., but as I’ve learned in my time on this earth, you can never change someone’s mind on something like this. Its like they’re a broken cd player, shorted out & replaying the same annoying clip of music with no “STOP” button in sight.

One way to handle this kind of situation is to just capitulate, and spend less time on World of Warcraft. I mean hey, if WoW is more important to you than your other half, then maybe its time to say “bye bye!” to that person!

The best way to handle this situation to my mind is to try & compromise. You give a little, they give a little. It shows you DO care about them, and that you’re willing to come half way. They also show that they accept your hobby is just as valid as any other, and don’t want to rob you of your relaxation and entertainment time.

Yes, yes… this DOES mean you spend less time playing World of Warcraft, and your leveling will be slower, you’ll accumulate less gold and you might drop a bit of your razor keen PvP skills… But you can mimize the damage if you know where to find great information that can leverage the time you CAN spend in WoW. In fact, I believe if you used your time properly, even if you halved your World of Warcraft time, you could still come out on top for leveling times… and gold?

Gold is a funny one…

Funny because you barely even NEED to play World of Warcraft. If you’re strapped for time, and don’t want to start a full blown gold farming session, you can log in for 15 minutes a day, employ some smart AH strategies and even come way, way out on top of where you are now.

In fact some gold makers like Jonathan Kenins regularly made 5,000 to 10,000 gold a week in World of Warcraft this year… with no cheating, and no dodgyness that’ll get you banned.

The AH is just like the real world. If you know enough about how free markets operate, and what forces are operating on those free markets, you can dominate the trading game. Its much like Warren Buffet’s share trading system — find underpriced shares in the market place, buy up big, and then sell them for a much greater profit down the track. You do the same in World of Warcraft – you just need to know which items are under priced, and which ones sell for a premium… and thankfully its much, much easier than trying to identify under priced shares in the real world…!

But enough about gold, I was talking about how you can prevent making a “Video game widow” out of your girlfriend or boyfriend!

They’re worth your company just as much as World of Warcraft, so I hope you compromise and keep two great parts of your life. Its very possible.

So lets say you want to try & be a bit  more accomodating… or you just plain need something extra to catch up to friends with the time you do have. What can you do?

I recommend two guides that are great time savers (and relationship savers).

1. Dave Farrel’s excellent value “Ultimate World of Warcraft” guides, which include gold getting, fast leveling and pvp dominating information, or

2. If you’re a Horde player, and you ONLY want to know the fastest way to level your toon (no gold, pvp, or profession guides here), then check out Joana’s Horde Guide. An oldie, but a level smashing, fast leveling goodie.

Best of luck!
